Susan Morford Selis, beloved mother and wife, passed away on October 10th, 2022 while visiting her son in California. She is survived by her husband Thomas Clement Selis, son Robert Randall Selis, daughter Jennifer Selis Evans, brother Richard William Morford, and five grandchildren.
Susan was born on October 12th, 1941. She was raised by her parents Joseph Vernon Morford and Ruth Pyle Morford in Greensburg, PA.
After high school, Susan attended Purdue University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Primary Education. While at Purdue, she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and a member of the Purdue Synchronized Swimming team. She met her husband her freshman year. Tom was part of the Reserve Officer Training Core (ROTC) while earning his Electrical Engineering degree. During Sue’s junior year she was named the ROTC Air Force Queen.
After graduation Susan and Thomas were married on September 7th, 1963. Tom joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Patrick Air Force base in Florida. Sue’s first job was as at Satellite Beach Elementary School as a second-grade teacher, while Tom worked at Cape Canaveral. Those four years were full of excitement as the nation was preparing for a moon landing. Sue would frequently take her students to the beach to see the latest launch of Americans training for the moon landing.
After a four-year tour in the Air Force the family moved to Greensburg, PA in 1967 where they started their civilian career. Sue became a housewife and welcomed her first child Randy into the world. In addition to being a housewife and mother, Sue remained active in the community through multiple organizations.
Ten years later Sue and family welcomed daughter Jennifer into the family in a private adoption ceremony.
After 17 wonderful years in Pennsylvania the family moved to Lima, OH in 1984, where Sue continued to raise her son and daughter. Sue became involved with the Lima Symphony Orchestra and was president of the Friends of the Symphony organization. She was also a member of the Shawnee Optimist Club. She enjoyed painting as a hobby and has several of her works in our home. Sue loved flowers and our home was always landscaped with lovely flower arrangements.
During the retirement years, she loved to travel and help raise her grandchildren. Winters were spent visiting with her son’s family in Moorpark, CA.
Sue was a follower of Jesus Christ and spent most of her days reading the bible, praying with friends, and glorifying Jesus. She was an active participant in bible studies in both Ohio and California. Her favorite bible verse was Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
There will be a Mass of Christian burial held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 12 noon at the St. Charles Catholic Church. Officiating the mass will be Fr. Kent Kaufman. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery following the service.
